Course Description:  

The 8 Hours Fall Prevention course is a DOB required course that can help fulfill the requirement for an individual applying for a Site Safety Training Card. THIS IS AN AWARENESS-LEVEL TRAINING ONLY and does not provide any other qualification or authorization outside of the Site Safety Training Card.

Academic Achievement: 

Once the course has been completed, the student should:

• Be able to identify and explain terminology associated with falls in construction

• Be able to recognize, avoid and prevent fall hazards to minimize harm

• Be able to outline regulatory safety requirement associated with falls, including OSHA's Subpart M

• Be able to learn how to make informed decisions when working at heights

• Be able to calculate fall distances for various types of fall arrest devices

• Be able to identify proper anchorage points

The 2 Hour Drug & Alcohol course is an elective course that can help fulfill the requirement for an individual applying for a Site Safety Training Card. THIS IS AN AWARENESS-LEVEL TRAINING ONLY and does not provide any other qualification or authorization outside of the Site Safety Training Card.

Academic Achievement: 

Once the course has been completed, the student should:

• Be able to describe the adverse effects of drug and alcohol in the workplace

• Be able to recognize problems associated with substance dependency

• Be able to avoid working while under the influence of drugs and or alcohol and be less susceptible and better at recognizing, avoiding, and preventing unfavorable repercussions of drug and or alcohol abuse

• Be able to recognize and understand issues of chemical dependence that could unfavorably affect the lives of others

This course is broken down into two 5 hour classes: 

Day 1: Fall Prevention

Duration: 5 Hours of instructional time

Day 2: Fall Prevention Continued AND 2 Hour Drug and Alcohol

Duration: 5 Hours of instructional time

Course Descriptions 

1) Fall Prevention

Instruction Delivery Method Media: Lecture/Discussion, Slide Presentation, Fall Protection Equipment (harnesses, lanyards, shock-absorbing decelerators, rope grabs etc.)

Case Studies Handouts: Slides, references 

Guided Learning: Trainees will learn how to on their own calculate fall distances for various types of fall arrest devices and decide on proper anchorage points.

2) Drug & Alcohol

Describe drug use and impairment in the workplace and the effects of such altered capacity, acuity and the increased risks of injury to themselves, other workers and the public.

Prerequisites: 30 Hr OSHA card - completed with an approved OSHA instructor or approved online training provider.

Policy: Students are required to complete 100% of the course and actively participate in all learning activities. Make-up time is not permitted for this training course.

​

Course Examination: Students must earn a 70% or more in their final exam in order to successfully complete the course.

​

Awarding of Certifications, CEUs, or Transcripts: Upon successful course completion students will receive a certificate of Completion from Safe Connect Us. Students will receive their 10-hour SST card. Cards can be picked up at the office by the student.
