40- Hour Site Safety Manager
The 40-Hour Site Safety Manager Course is required by the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) for individuals seeking to become licensed Site Safety Managers or Site Safety Coordinators. It is also beneficial for experienced construction supervisors who are responsible for ensuring safe work practices on major construction sites.
This course provides an in-depth review of NYC Construction Codes, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices related to site safety management. Participants will learn how to identify and correct hazardous conditions, develop and implement site safety plans, coordinate with other construction professionals, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements across various construction activities.
This course is one of the pre-requisites an applicant must successfully complete before being eligible to apply for Site Safety Manager Certificate Examination.
In addition, this course fulfills the training course requirements for Site Safety Coordinator and Construction Superintendent Certification in New York City.
- To obtain a Site Safety Manager Certificate, the applicant must complete & submit to the Licensing Unit a certificate of completion for 40 hours of training as mandated by the NYC 2014 Construction Codes - Title 28 General Administrative Provisions, Chapter 4 Licensing & Registration of Businesses, Trades & Occupations, Article 402 Site Safety Manager Certificate §28-402.2–Qualifications.
- To obtain a Site Safety Coordinator Certificate, the applicant must complete and submit to the Licensing Unit a certificate of completion for 40 hours of training as mandated by the NYC 2014 Construction Codes - Title 28 General Administrative Provisions, Chapter 4 Licensing & Registration of Businesses, Trades & Occupations, Article 403 Site Safety Coordinator Certificate §28-403.2 Qualifications.
- To register as a Construction Superintendent, the applicant must complete & submit to DOB Licensing a certificate of completion for 40 hours of training as mandated by Title 1 of the Rules of the City of New York §48-03.
This course consists of several different components including a PowerPoint presentation, lecture, case studies, class discussions and hands on demonstrations. We will provide a student manual which will include all relevant written standards.

Upon successful completion of this course students:
- Identify safety procedures to protect public and property during construction and demolition operations in New York City.
- Define construction fire protection and prevention methods that comply with the New York City Fire Code.
- Describe communication procedures between New York City Department of Buildings and licensed site safety professionals.
- Distinguish between the OSHA standards and New York City Department of Buildings Chapter 33 regulations.
- Participants must provide a valid government-issued photo ID.
- Participants must be able to understand and communicate in the language in which the course is conducted.
- Participants should have prior construction experience, as the course is geared toward those assuming supervisory roles.
